Transportation Alternatives Projects
2021 Proposals
RTC will seek input from the public on projects being considered for funding through the federal Transportation Alternatives program within Clark, Skamania, and Klickitat counties. The public comment and review period is scheduled for May 4 through May 21, 2021. Public comments will be accepted using the contact comment link in the right sidebar on this page.
The following list includes projects submitted to RTC for consideration, arranged alphabetically by jurisdiction. Eligible projects include bicycle and pedestrian facilities, safe routes for nondrivers, rails-to-trails, scenic viewpoints, community improvements, and environmental mitigation.
2021 Applications
- City of La Center – Pacific Highway Shared Use Path
- This request will design an 8-to-10-foot shared use path from Larson Drive to Kay’s Subdivision, including replacing roadside ditch with underground storm water system.
- City of Vancouver – Evergreen Highway Pathway
- This request will construct a 10-foot shared use path on the south side of SE Evergreen Highway from SE Chelsea Avenue to SE Image Road. Design, right-of-way, and permitting are underway.
- Clark County – NE Hazel Dell Avenue Sidewalk Improvements
- This project will improve pedestrian and bicycle movements on Hazel Dell Avenue from NE 99th Street to 117th Street by constructing missing and damaged sidewalk segments, curb ramps, adding bike lanes, relocating a mid-block pedestrian crossing, and adding a Rapid Flashing Beacon crossing. Design, right-of-way, and permitting are underway.
- Clark County – Highway 99 Sidewalk (NE 102nd Street to 104th Street)
- This request will design and construct curb, sidewalk, and curb ramps along the east side of Highway 99 and along south side of 104th Street to complete gaps in missing sidewalks. The project includes structural stabilization near the Tenny Creek ravine and a pedestrian safety barrier.
- Port of Vancouver – Renaissance Trail Segment 4
- This project will design a 12-foot-wide multimodal path on the southern shoulder of State Route 501 (Lower River Road), along the fourth segment of a 6-segment, 4.5-mile trail. This segment is 850 feet long and will require innovative solutions to deal with steep slopes, wetlands, vegetation, and stormwater.
Grant Awards
On July 6, 2021, the RTC Board of Directors selected five projects to receive approximately $1.59 million in regionally allocated federal TA funds. These projects will be programmed in years 2022-2024.
